Matrix Addition and Subtraction

With the following application you can easily add or subtract two matrices. Simply edit any of the input matrices and click the ‘Calculate Matrices’ button.

One of the nice things about the application below is that when you edit matrix elements the size of the matrix expands/contracts automatically and the other matrices shift to the left/right to compensate. This means you always get a consistent layout matrix elements are edited, and all the columns always line up as you would expect them too.

To edit matrices please see the instructions below:

  1. Click anywhere within the application area then press the ‘Tab’ key to cycle through the editable matrix elements. Note: The last matrix on the RHS of each line is not meant to be edited for obvious reason as it only displays matrix calculation results.
  2. Click a matrix element directly to select it for editing. The new value can then be entered.
  3. When you have edited a matrix element you can click the ‘Calculate Matrices’ button or press the ‘Enter’ key on the keyboard twice**. Either way the matrices will be updated and recalculated.

** The first press enters the edited value and gives focus to the ‘Calculate Matrices’ button, and the second press activates the button in the same way as if it had been clicked (because it now has keyboard focus).
